A single contact can only exist once per campaign. If you need a referrer from Campaign A to also participate in Campaign B, you'll need to add them to the second campaign separately.

Avoiding duplicates in HubSpot

When configuring the HubSpot integration, set it to "Update existing contact" so that the referral link and campaign data are updated on the existing HubSpot record rather than creating a duplicate.

Key points

  • Each campaign maintains its own independent referrer list.
  • The same email address can exist across multiple campaigns without conflict in Referral Factory.
  • In HubSpot, the contact record is shared across campaigns, so use separate custom properties for each campaign if you need to track per-campaign data independently (e.g. referral links and qualification status for each campaign).

Using separate HubSpot properties for each campaign

If a contact participates in more than one of your campaigns, you can create separate custom contact properties in HubSpot to store the referral link for each campaign. For example:
Map each campaign in Referral Factory to its own dedicated HubSpot property so that links from different campaigns do not overwrite each other.
  • Referral Link (Ongoing) — stores the referral link for your main ongoing campaign
  • Referral Link (Summer Promotion) — stores the referral link for a time-limited campaign

Avoiding qualification conflicts across campaigns

If two campaigns use the same HubSpot property to trigger automatic qualification, a change to that property could qualify a lead in both campaigns at once — which may not be what you intend. To avoid this:
  • Use a separate qualification property for each campaign, or use property values that are unique per campaign (e.g. 'qualified-ongoing' vs 'qualified-summer').
  • Plan your HubSpot property structure carefully before running multiple campaigns simultaneously.
