Overview

Referral Factory does not use cookies for referral attribution. Instead, Referral Factory stores the relationship between a lead and a referrer when the referred person submits their details through the referrer’s Referral Link Page.
For the complete attribution journey, read How Does Referral Attribution Work in Referral Factory?

Does Referral Factory use cookies for referral tracking?

Referral Factory does not use cookies for referral attribution. This explanation applies specifically to the Referral Link attribution method.
Each referrer receives a unique Referral Link. The link opens that referrer’s Referral Link Page, where the referred person can submit their details. Once the details are submitted, Referral Factory stores the lead-to-Referrer relationship in Referral Factory.

When is referral attribution created?

Opening the Referral Link Page does not create a lead or attribution. A page view contributes to Reach, but the relationship is created only when the referred person submits their details.
The simple distinction is:
Referral Link Page viewed = Reach
Details submitted = Lead + attribution created
The Referral Link Page is the point where Referral Factory captures the referred person and connects them to the referrer.
Referral Factory Referral Link Page used to capture and attribute a lead
Attribution is stored after the referred person submits their details on the Referral Link Page.

What happens after the lead submits their details?

Referral Factory stores the relationship between the lead and the referrer. The Lead appears in Leads, with the referrer shown in the Referred By column, and the lead can start as Pending until a later qualification event occurs.

Does referral attribution expire?

No. The attribution does not disappear because a cookie expires. The Lead can convert two days, two months or two years later and retain the original referral relationship.

Can the lead convert on another device?

Yes. Because the relationship is stored in Referral Factory after the lead submits their details, the original attribution is not lost if the lead later converts on another device.

Why is this useful for longer sales cycles?

It means attribution is not dependent on a browser remembering the original referral click until conversion. A long sales process can continue after the initial Referral Link Page submission without losing the connection between the lead and the referrer.
